When in Goa, I always go around on a motorbike scooter. It’s so easy and fast to zip between beaches, go to parties or restaurants, and go shopping. But on my recent holiday I had booked a long break in Goa, so I was feeling relaxed and didn’t feel like riding a loud bike. So when I stumbled upon these short cycling tours of the state, I was immediately hooked. I booked one cycling tour to explore Old Goa, with all its Portugese culture and historical monuments.


Our tour started by crossing a 400 year old bridge that runs over the Mandovi River. Cycling over it made me feel like I was in the movie Dil Chahata hai. We soon entered the old town of Goa and I felt like I was transported back into time.


Cycling through Portuguese Goa


Old Goa is predominantly made up of Portuguese edifices and they are untouched by modern construction. Cycling over cobbled streets, I took in every sight of the quaint earthy houses, the tiny chapels dotted all over, the intoxicating smell of fish curry and the locals who were embodiments of the Old Goa they lived in. We stopped to visit an old Portuguese bungalow.


It was beautiful and I wished I could have lived in it. It wasn’t very large, but still it was spacious. The furniture was ancient, the tiles were colourful and it just had the best vibe inside. I made another stop to have fried fish at a local joint. It was better than any fried fish I have had at the fancier restaurants. The authentic flavours of the curry, with its tanginess and spices was incomparable with anything else. The whole area seemed so different from the Goa I usually visit. I loved it.


Se Cathedral – the highlight of my cycling tour in Goa


On our way, we stopped at the monument I was most excited to see Stefano Okaka Italy Jersey , Se Cathedral. Built in the 16th century, this overwhelmingly large cathedral is the largest in all of Asia. With pearl white walls, intricately carved archways and it’s vast, colourful gardens, this cathedral is majestic in every way. As we entered it, a tranquil feeling overcame me, and I could definitely feel a sort of divine presence inside.
