DENVER - Carlos Gonzalezs fifth-inning base hit didnt land far from Arizona right fielder Gerardo Parra, who held him to a single with a quick throw to second base. Tony Oliva Twins Jersey . Trouble is, D.J. LeMahieu, running on the pitch, was about to score all the way from first. The relay from shortstop Chris Owings beat LeMahieu to the plate, but catcher Miguel Montero couldnt hang onto the low throw and LeMahieu slid across with the go-ahead run. Rockies manager Walt Weiss praised both LeMahieu and third base coach Stu Cole. "D.J.s got to give Stu the opportunity to wave him and thats what he did. He never slowed down and gave Stu the opportunity to make a gutsy call," Weiss said after Colorados come-from-behind 9-4 victory Saturday night. "It still seemed like we had the runner beat with the throw but we didnt hold on to it," manager Kirk Gibson lamented after the Diamondbacks fourth straight loss left them with a 1-7 record and their worst start in franchise history. "It was a pressure play they put on us. We didnt execute it." Gonzalez was as surprised as the D-Backs were when he looked back and saw LeMahieu huffing for home. "It was awesome, a heads-up play," Gonzalez said. "Parra kind of falls asleep in right field thinking that I was going to go to second base, throws the ball to second base, D.J. never stopped and that was the go-ahead run, that was what we needed. And once again, the bullpen did an amazing job tonight holding the opposing team and we just kept scoring runs." After falling behind 4-0, the Rockies scored the games final nine runs for their second straight blowout of the reeling D-Backs. Nolan Arenado homered twice for his first career multi-homer game, Michael Cuddyer went deep, rookie right-hander Tommy Kahnle picked up his first major league victory, Charlie Blackmon went 3 for 4, tying the Rockies franchise record with nine hits in consecutive games, and Colorado snapped Paul Goldschmidts 26-game hitting streak that was the longest in the majors. Yet, it was LeMahieus hustle play that truly epitomized the Rockies successful night. Its the kind of aggressiveness on the base paths Weiss has been preaching about all spring that will be required of his team if the Rockies are going to have the kind of season their owner thinks they can. He predicted a 90-win season in the competitive NL West. Never looking back, LeMahieu didnt see where Gonzalez had hit the ball, "but I could kind of see by Stus body language that if something happened, if he bobbled it or whatever, that we could take an extra base there. It was a great call by him." Gonzalez praised both Cole and LeMahieu with his most improbable of RBIs. "He thanked me for my hustle and getting him that RBI," LeMahieu said with a chuckle. "It feels good as a teammate to pick up an RBI for a guy like that." That hustle also benefited Kahnle (1-0), who was selected in the 2013 Rule 5 draft from the New York Yankees. He pitched 1 2-3 innings of one-hit ball in relief of starter Jorge De La Rosa, who struggled through his second straight start. Brandon McCarthy (0-1) surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in six innings for Arizona. The Rockies fell behind 4-0 before scoring three times in the fourth and twice in the fifth to take the lead. De La Rosa allowed four runs, three of them earned, on four hits. He struggled through a 42-pitch, 21-minute first inning but only gave up one run on Martin Prados double into the left-field corner that scored Goldschmidt from first. He also gave up a two-run homer to Mark Trumbo, his fourth, in the third inning. Notes: Goldschmidt went 0-for-2 with two walks. ... Blackmons nine hits in two games tied the franchise mark set by Juan Pierre in 2002. ... Trumbo now has four home runs and 11 RBIs in five career games at Coors Field. ... De La Rosa threw 101 pitches, 30 more than McCarthy threw in six full innings. ... Colorado SS Troy Tulowitzki took a designated day off. ... The series wraps up Sunday afternoon with the D-Backs sending LHP Wade Miley (1-1) against LHP Brett Anderson (0-1). Kyle Gibson Twins Jersey . Roma has a game in hand but now second place is even at risk for the capital side as Napoli moved to within three points with the win. "The result is not always fair," Roma coach Rudi Garcia said. "If we play like this until the end we will win many matches. Nelson Cruz Twins Jersey .C. - Blair Jones scored the eventual winner in the third period as the Abbotsford Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Oil Barons 3-2 in American Hockey League action on Friday. http://www.twinssale.com/twins-bert-blyleven-jersey/ . The American secured his first back-to-back ATP match wins since June to leave Tsonga relying on his performance at next weeks Paris Masters to clinch one of the final three places for the season-ending event in London. Tsonga would have moved up one spot to No. 6 with a win over Querrey at the City of Arts and Sciences, but his serve deserted him in the second set as the 116th-ranked American broke twice to reach the quarter-finals.SAN ANTONIO -- North Carolina had 1.6 seconds to score and avoid another early NCAA tournament exit, but instead spent that precious time trying to call timeout. A fittingly frustrating end to a frustrating Tar Heels season. With coach Roy Williams jumping and gesticulating for a timeout, the No. 6 seed Tar Heels inbounded the ball to Nate Britt who dribbled past midcourt as time expired, ousting them in the third round for a second consecutive season in a 85-83 loss to Iowa State on Sunday. Officials huddled for several minutes reviewing the clock on replays before confirming that the game was over. Williams -- who collapsed his hands on his knees as Britt surged toward him -- then shook Iowa State coach Fred Hoibergs hand as North Carolina began absorbing the heartbreaker. "We made some mistakes. We practice all the time that situation for five guys to be calling timeout, and Im supposed to be calling timeout, and I was calling timeout," Williams said. "Referees didnt recognize it. We practice those scenarios, so we made mistakes. " Iowa States DeAndre Kane did exactly as his coach had instructed, driving for a layup with 1.6 seconds left that gave the Cyclones the lead. His twisting shot put Iowa State in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2000. "Hes been our Mariano Rivera. Hes been our closer all throughout this season," Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg said. Now the No. 3 seed Cyclones (28-7) are headed to the home of the former Yankees star, New York City, where they will play No. 7 seed Connecticut in the East Regional semifinals next week. The No. 6 seed Tar Heels (24-10) are gone in the NCAA tournaments opening weekend for the first time in consecutive seasons under Williams, who choked back tears following the end of his 10th season in Chapel Hill. "Lets not anybody lay it on the officials or anything like that. We didnt call the timeout with 1.6 seconds to play," Williams said. Britt said he thought North Carolina got the timeout before the buzzer. "When I looked up at the clock I saw one-point-something time left," he said. "I saw staff screaming and trying to call timeout." Kane finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds. It was just the kind of big game the Cyclones needed without forward Georges Niang, who broke his foot in Fridays win against North Carolina Central. Paul Molitor Jersey. The 6-foot-7 sophomore sat on the bench wearing a bulky boot while the Cyclones tried their best without their third-leading scorer and tallest starter. Kane said the last possession called for him to attack the basket, unless North Carolina defenders swarmed him as he penetrated. "But nobody helped, and I made an acrobatic shot and it went in," Kane said. Marcus Paige led North Carolina with 19 points and Kennedy Meeks had 15 points and 13 rebounds. But North Carolina played nearly the entire game without forward Brice Johnson, who sprained ankle in the opening minutes. The team said X-rays were negative, but the Tar Heels third-leading scorer never returned. The Tar Heels crave a fast pace, and -- after dealing with the grind-it-out style of recent opponents -- Williams and Paige had spoken of relishing the chance to finally hit the gas against the similarly up-tempo Cyclones. But this was no track meet. Undersized Iowa State bottled up the Tar Heels before they could run and bombarded them with 3-pointers (12 of 26) instead of quick baskets. The first dunk came from Kane, not the high-flying Tar Heels, and not until 12 minutes into the game after a handful of bungled North Carolina fast breaks. Niangs injury left Hoiberg with a tough choice: go small with his best remaining five or a put a little-used big man in place of his star sophomore. He opted for size over another shooter, giving 6-foot-8 forward Daniel Edozie his first career start. Edozie missed the only two shots he tried and grabbed four rebounds. But Johnsons bum ankle reduced North Carolinas size advantage. Johnson, who came in averaging 10.6 points and is the Tar Heels second-leading rebounder, tumbled to the floor with North Carolina up 12-7. He sat on the bench before hobbling to the locker room. Coincidental or not, the Cyclones got hot the moment Johnson left the game. They shook off a 1-for-10 start from the floor and erased a seven-point deficit in less than 1 1/2 minutes. After that, neither team led by more than single digits. "Once Georges got injured people didnt think that we had enough to pull out this win," forward Dustin Hogue said. "This goes to show that we have depth and we have heart. With enough heart you can beat anybody." ' ' '
