First outing with rookie tackles didn’t go so well It’s becoming more and more apparent the Raiders are leaning heavily on their rookies this season. An overall lack of talent forces them into this position. That’s a lot to ask of them. Inconsistency is often the most you can hope for from a rookie class. He gave up one hit, two pressures, and a false start. He also had a couple good run blocks.Arden Key He still leads the team with 5 QB hits, but that’s more a product of how bad the team is overall in pass rush, because that’s not a lot. Last week seemed like his best chance to finally notch his first sack Womens Derek Carr Jersey , being that the Chargers were fielding backup tackles on both sides. But not only did Key not get that first sack, he didn’t have a single hit on Philip Rivers. He too had just one tackle in the game.Maurice HurstAnother fairly good outing for Hurst. He had a couple tackles and batted a pass down at the line. He was tied for the team lead with 2.0 sacks, but Bruce Irvin got his third Sunday, so Hurst is now second on the team in sacks.Johnny TownsendA decent game brought his season punt average up a full yard (44.9) and up four spots to 20th in the league. His net punting remained at 40.2 which is 14th in the league. He didn’t have any punts inside the 20 this week, so his 4 such punts drops him to 28th in the league. Trent SiegAll conditions normal for Sieg. No news is good news for the long snapper.Matt McCraneAfter going 3 for 5 in his first game, McCrane went 1 for 2 against the Chargers, making from 24 yards out and missing a 57-yard attempt short. He is now 4 for 7 with misses from 47, 50, and 57. His longest made field goal is 44 yards.There wasn’t a lot of positives that came out of that game for anyone, let alone the rookies. They’ll have better days.Follow @LeviDamien Yesterday, as covered by yours truly, Rashaan Melvin posted a couple tweets regarding his frustration and his playing style. During today’s Raiders press conference, Jon Gruden addressed those tweets with the following statement:Gruden is not a coach to pull punches or sugar coat his feelings when it comes to his players. He talked plenty of smack about Martavis Bryant during training camp and preseason Gareon Conley Jersey , implying that Martavis wasn’t a reliable player. Gruden wasn’t necessarily wrong about that, but where is the line when it comes to calling out your players?Gruden’s abrasive personality may seem detrimental, but it’s gotten him job after job and his own show on ESPN working with young quarterbacks, so it certainly works for Jon Gruden. The question is whether or not it’s going to work with this Raider team in the long run, or if Gruden is going to remake the team so thoroughly that it won’t matter anymore.The first two sentences of Gruden’s statement here are pretty clearly a slam on Melvin, as in he isn’t good enough to stick on a team and he doesn’t know what he’s doing. But the second two are softer, in that Melvin has every right to be frustrated and he is a high character guy. Just like Gruden’s comments about Bryant, those things are not mutually exclusive and may all be true.However, this is yet another example of Gruden saying something that can be taken as highly insensitive. Not that the players can’t take it, but when the team is doing this poorly, maybe Gruden should rethink sticking his foot in his mouth every five minutes.
